As teachers, we all know how important it is to encourage our pupils to write. Sometimes it can be difficult to come up with ideas that inspire them to put pen to paper. That's why we have put together this list of 10 exciting story starters for key stage two pupils. 

1. The Mysterious Treasure Map 

One day, you discover a mysterious treasure map in your grandparent's attic.
Write about your adventure to find the treasure. What do you encounter along the way? Does anyone try to stop you? 

2. Lost in the Jungle 

You find yourself alone in the middle of the jungle.
How did you get there?
What do you do to survive?
Do you encounter any dangerous animals or people? 

3. Time Traveller 

You suddenly find yourself in a different time period.
Where are you? What do you see? Do you meet anyone famous or important? 

4. The Haunted House 

You and your friends dare each other to spend the night in a haunted house.
What do you experience? Is it really haunted or just a prank? 

5. The Secret Portal 

You discover a secret portal that takes you to a different world.
What do you see? Who do you meet? What adventures do you have? 

6. The Magic Treehouse 

You discover a magical treehouse in the woods.
What do you find inside? Are there any secrets? What adventures do you have? 

7. The Alien Invasion 

Aliens have invaded Earth!
What do you do?
How do you fight back?
Do you find any allies? 

8. The Superhero 

You discover that you have superpowers.
What are they? How do you use them to help others? Do you encounter any villains? 

9. The Pirate's Treasure 

You discover a pirate's treasure map.
What adventures do you have to find the treasure?
Do you encounter any other pirates or obstacles? 

10. The Olympic Champion 

You have just won a gold medal at the Olympics. How did you prepare for the competition? What was the competition like? How do you celebrate? 

These story starters are just the beginning. Encourage your students to let their imaginations run wild and see where their writing takes them. Who knows, they may even surprise themselves!
