Jeremy Corbyn Praises Mighty Writer Literacy Resource

Award-winning literacy tool Mighty Writer has grabbed the attention of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Mr Corbyn expressed interest in Mighty Writer at an exhibition at the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) conference in Telford.

Mighty Writer is a groundbreaking new way of teaching children literacy.

It uses picture, symbol and word tiles to help 4-7-year-olds learn grammar, punctuation, syntax and storytelling. They stick the tiles to soft-touch mats and toolbars using hook and loop fastening.

Mighty Writer is the brainchild of Bournemouth teacher Emma Ralph. Her husband David was exhibiting the innovative new resource at the NAHT conference when he met Mr Corbyn.

Mr Ralph said: “He was standing there right in front of my stand, on his own, genuinely admiring Mighty Writer."

“He told me it looked really good. I gave him some background information about low literacy rates and said we wanted to change that. He asked for some of my literature about Mighty Writer.”

Mighty Writer swiftly transforms children’s storytelling and writing ability – they love using the new resource.

It also saves teachers time, supports the 2014 National Curriculum and helps to prepare children for SATS tests.

Dorset schools using Mighty Writer include:

  • Lilliput CE Infant School, Poole
  • Trinity CE VA First School, Verwood
  • Hillside First School, Verwood
  • Verwood CE First School, Verwood
  • St Nicholas & St Laurence School, Weymouth

Mighty Writer won silver in the Primary Teacher Awards 2016 – just months after it was launched at the Education Show, NEC, Birmingham.

And leading education author, teacher and reviewer John Dabell praised it as “a pioneering belter of a resource” that helps children to develop core speaking and story writing skills.

So far teachers have scored Mighty Writer 9.7 out of 10 overall, based on:
